Film and TV

John Howkins’ experience in TV, film and online media covers 30 years. He has been a senior executive in several companies and advised major corporations and regulatory organisations in Europe, US, Asia and Africa.

Recent TV projects include a media strategy for the European Parliament.  Bringing together a team of UK and US consultants, we said the Parliament should not run a traditional broadcast TV channel but launch a multi-channel webcasting service instead. The new service, EuroParlTV, launched in September 2008.

Since 2006, he has been director of HandMade plc. In 2007, he was appointed a director of Hotbed Media Ltd.

John Howkins was Chief European Advisor to Home Box Office and Time Warner International for 15 years, advising on business strategy, regulations and technology.

John’s experience includes being closely involved in Britain’s last two major terrestrial channels, as founder of the TV4 Group that led to Channel 4 and as project manager, representing Time Warner, for Channel five.  From 2000-04 he was Chairman of Tornado Productions, a pioneering webcasting and streaming company.

He is Deputy Chair of the British Screen Advisory Council.
